ACTIVITY OF THE MONTH My Favorite Mistake

Showers Bring Flowers: Finding Growth in Our Favorite Mistakes

April brings with it the rain—the kind that soaks the ground, muddies our shoes, and has us longing for sunshine. But seasoned gardeners know – those showers are what make the blooming possible.

That’s the heart of this month’s theme: “Showers Bring Flowers.” The struggles, stumbles, and setbacks we face aren’t detours from success—they’re the very things that grow us into who are and who we’re becoming. That’s exactly what April’s Activity of the Month, “My Favorite Mistake”, is all about.

In this reflective and empowering experience, students revisit a moment when they got something wrong—an error in judgment, a failed attempt, or a misstep—and reframe it as a moment of growth. Instead of hiding their mistake, they celebrate it. Why? Because it taught them something they wouldn’t have learned any other way.

My Favorite Mistake” encourages students to see failure as feedback. It’s a mindset shift—a move from shame to ownership, from frustration to wisdom. It also opens the door to deep conversations about Integrity (being honest about our journey), Knowledge (gained through experience), and Passion (caring enough to keep trying). It cultivates a Growth Mindset and reinforces the truth that mistakes aren’t signs we’re doing it wrong—they’re signs we’re learning something new.

We’ve all had those “rainy day” moments. But when we take the time to reflect, we realize how many of them were quietly watering the soil. The goal isn’t to avoid failure—it’s to recognize the growth that results from it.

So, let’s embrace the rain this month. Let’s help students see that even their favorite mistake—the one they thought they’d never get past—might just be the root of something beautiful.
