What “The Power of Moments” is About:
The world of education loves a good acronym. But the acronym featured in this book is one you’ll want to remember because it will help you create powerful moments in your classroom that will stick with your students for a lifetime. The authors share that even a brief experience can change us, and taking time to create those moments in work and our personal lives is meaningful. Their framework, EPIC, stands for Elevation, Insight, Pride, and Connection and in this book, they explore how that framework can help you design powerful moments that those around you will never forget.
The various case studies in the book “The Power of Moments” help illustrate how companies, individuals, and schools have created powerful moments over time that not only stand out, but create deeper connections between people.
What We Love About “The Power of Moments”:
Empowered believes that learning should be an experience. No one remembers a particular class lecture on a topic from a random Tuesday in November. But they will remember a classroom learning experience that provides a level of thoughtfulness and coordination that comes from the EPIC framework presented. Here’s a taste of how to create EPIC classroom experiences.

ELEVATION: Host lesson launch parties to kick off a new unit with a themed outfit or a hands-on challenge.
PRIDE: Set up a “level-up” board where students can earn recognition for mastering skills or showing persistence in learning a new skill.
INSIGHT: In a history or literature lesson, role-play a moment from multiple viewpoints so students can see the complexity or empathy in a story.
CONNECTION: Write short, specific notes of encouragement to each student at some point during the semester.
Curating a powerful moment doesn’t have to be spendy or elaborate. Even the smallest steps could lead to building a memory that will last far beyond the final bell.
How can you create powerful moments in your classroom? You can answer that question and share your thoughts on the book on Teacher Talk inside Empowered Hub.
